The Forest of Query

Solo exhibition and collaboration with performative writer Veronica B.  The Foyer, School of Design, University of Leeds, 2019/2020

The Vinda Majer Foundation of Hopes and Sorrows has commissioned artist Andrea G Artz and narrator Veronica B. for an ongoing project to transform the Borraveirosan Collection to the virtual world giving the Sory Colony a growing space where settlers can live.

Trailer for Virtual Reality Experience, 2019

The video trailer for The Forest of Query finally developed into a virtual reality experience that features magical creatures & a forest environment in a post – apocalyptic world. The unique way of developing a virtual world from folded photographs sets it apart from the usual CGI characters and creates sculptures that come alive through movement.

The visitor is seated on a giant futuristic leaf that flies through a dark yet beautiful winter forest that is inhabited by characters that are part human, partly beast and part mythological creatures and belong to no particular race or gender. The journey ends at the “Lake of All Problems & Solutions, where after sunset the creatures swim to confront their worries & collect Oracle leaves shed by the Born-in-water-tree. The narrative was developed by writer Veronica B. who introduces the “Neo Victorian Surrealism” writing Style. The composition for the filmic soundtrack by Composer and musician Hutch Demouilpied.

The forest is timeless & exists in the past or future after a period of climate change, or a nuclear disaster. The experience is inspired by Caspar David Friedrich’s romantic yet surreal landscape paintings and my artist residency working in a remote studio in the dark winter forest at the Mac Dowell Colony of Arts in Peterborough, NH.
